CCA History
Crossroads Christian Academy was founded as a ministry of Crossroads Bible Church in 1997 by a small group of missionaries, pastors, and other parents. The school began with 29 students enrolled in grades Kindergarten - 8th. The return of sovereignty of the Panama Canal in 1999 and the exodus of many Americans, the school was faced with a major question - should it continue to operate, would there be a continued need and interest for a school such as CCA and would there be enough teachers and students? The church and school boards decided that the school should continue to operate as a ministry of Crossroads Bible Church, acting in faith that God would provide. Since that point, the school has continued to steadily grow. Today the school has grown to 242 full-time students and includes grades PK4 -12th . The students represent a wide spectrum of backgrounds. Currently, 35% of students are Panamanian citizens, 22% are U.S. citizens, and the others are citizens from countries including Bolivia, Turks & Caicos, Jamaica, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Germany, Mexico, Russia, Canada, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, and Venezuela. Over 60 percent of the students hold a foreign passport, with the majority from the English-speaking world. Students are tested for English competency and mathematic achievement before being admitted to CCA. Religious background of either parents or students is not a factor in the admission process. However, parents and students must agree to be taught according to the Statement of Faith.
The faculty is recruited in the US. All the teachers hold a recognized US equivalent teaching certificate - most have US state certification. The Spanish teachers are local hire.
